Welcome, I am Dr. Zech, a local blacksmith with a small smithy in the East Riding of Yorkshire and an Iron Age archaeologist (PhD). Customers from around the world come to me for bespoke products. I specialise in archaeology tools, kitchen knives, and garden tools.
Each piece I make is slightly different, with no two exactly the same. This largely comes down to the use of the traditional hand tools I employ. I showcase this by leaving some areas unfinished with the hammer strokes still visible under the forge scale.
Many of my designs are derived from a cumulation of my knowledge and experience for history and traditional handcrafts. For example, some of my best selling items are twisted steel scarf pins which are derived from British and Gaulish Iron Age pins and tool handles.
