A hand forged archaeology trowel makes the perfect digging companion whether you are just starting your career or a seasoned veteran. Each archaeology trowel is hand forged from quality steel by Dr. Zech in small batches right here in Britain.

With our archaeology trowel builder, you can fully customise your trowel. Each piece is unique and no two are exactly the same but this is no compromise to the quality. The underneath and the centre of the blade are left mostly unpolished showcasing the individual hammer strokes used to make these incredible archaeology trowels.

These trowels are hand forged in Britain by Dr. Zech and closely conform to the familiar Philadelphia pattern. Thicker steel is used so they will last much longer than the competition. The full tang handle means they are well balanced.

Please note these are made to order, if you are in a rush, please pop over to our listing for our economy line (quick dispatch) which are still just as nice if not better than the leading high street brand.

For our mild steel, typically we use En3 or En8.

For our high carbon steel, typically we use 1084 sometimes 26c3 both of which are well balanced steels, though not corrosion resistant.

For our tool steel we use 52100 which has good wear resistance and toughness e.g. better impact resistance.

For our stainless steel, we use oil hardening Silver Fox 100 steel which has good corrosion resistance but is not as tough as our tool steels.

All trowels are hand forged from 5mm stock except those in 52100, which are forged from 4mm stock.
